At home in the Northwest - Meet Lara Engebretson

Body of Light’s new back-office guru, Lara Engebretson, grew up in Minnesota. Like many mid-westerners, Lara was awed by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest when she first visited in 2008. She and her husband made the move to Eugene four years ago and Lara says that they’ve found much enjoyment in “amazing local food, beautiful parks, coastal towns, and some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met”.

Since moving to Oregon, Lara has developed a passion for hiking. She’s climbed the South Sister and Mount St. Helens, and can often be found on Mt. Pisgah with her Australian Cattle Dog, Flynn. And Eugene has been a wonderful place to continue practicing her belief in living a healthy lifestyle, which includes yoga and cooking grain-free.

Lara loves meeting Body of Light clients and is always entertained by the children coming into the office for care or accompanying their parents. She appreciates working in a wellness environment that is so clearly focused on people's overall health and well-being.

And here’s some more from Lara. We’ve done a little Q and A with the Body of Light staff, and this is what she had to say:

What do you think makes Eugene…Eugene?

Eugene has wonderful restaurants, amazing local farms, close proximity to the coast, great shows that come through town, and a welcoming community that has made me feel very at home after only four years.

What do you do on a rainy weekend day?

I’ll enjoy reading books on my Kindle, streaming movies, and hanging out with my dog, Flynn.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?

My favorite social studies teacher wrote a graduation letter that said, "...best wishes to a bright gal with a sound perception of social justice goals." I felt that she really "got me" and I still have her letter after 25 years.

If you could meet to one person in history or fiction, who would it be?

Muhammed Ali; he is an inspiration to find the confidence to do your best and follow your dreams.
